How does ebay work and where are the items stored?

Is it a place for the sellers to send items to and people purchase online, or do people sell it from their own home. Its my 1st time buying something off ebay, and worried i’ll be scammed. What if the sellers keep the items while you purchase it? Is there anyway they can scam?

Sellers usually sell things from their own home and some drop-ship from other companies.
Sign up for PayPal and use it to pay for your item. They have buyer protection. I have had over 800 transactions on ebay and haven’t been scammed once.
