How To Buy A Car Online
There are many traditional methods of buying a car, including dealerships and private sales. If you’d like to learn how to buy a car online, there are methods you should know about in order to make the best purchase and protect yourself.
Sites such as Craigslist.org provide listings by region of items for sale privately. You can buy just about anything you want on Craigslist, but there are some caveats. Spam can be a concern when using Craigslist, as with many other sites. Saving money by learning how to buy a car online is worth the extra trouble. I recommend establishing a separate account for emails dealing with Craigslist if you will be bothered by Spam.
When you join Craigslist you don’t have to pay to buy or sell, which is nice compared to certain other alternatives for buying a car online. You can search by your location in order to locate the vehicle you want in your area. Craigslist was one of my first stops when I was learning how to buy a car online and I have had success with both buying and selling.
Autotrader.com is another site which shows listings for vehicles within a user defined area. This site is free to join and to search for vehicles. You do have to join in order to contact the sellers of the vehicles, but a separate email account shouldn’t be necessary as I haven’t found any Spam attributable to Autotrader. As a corollary, if you want to sell a vehicle on Autotrader, it will cost you a listing fee. You should take fees such as this into account when learning how to buy a car online. There are other sites similar to Autotrader which follow the same basic format. I have purchased vehicles in this manner and recommend it as an alternative to newsprint ads.
Online auctions are another option for those endeavoring to learn how to buy a car online. Ebay is one of the most popular ways to buy just about anything via online auctions. There is an entire section called eBay Motors that is dedicated to vehicles and vehicles parts and accessories. Bidding is an interesting and exciting way of buying a car online. What I do when using eBay to find a car is search, find the car, set my price limit and then bid only up to that limit. Not allowing yourself to be hypnotized by the idea of winning the car will go a long way toward saving you money with online car auctions. I learned how to buy a car online by using eBay.
Government auctions are another source of vehicles on the top of my list, as you can bid very low and get a car for a considerably less than you would have to pay even from a used private sale. Many people worry that cars at auction will be a bad choice, but that simply isn’t true.
Yes, some of the cars will be used Police vehicles that you might not want to bother with. However, most of these vehicles are bank repossessions with low mileage and intact warranties. Rather than pay for storage, the bank puts the cars up for auction and cuts their losses. Typically, you can inspect the cars yourself a day before the auction to get an idea of what you’d like to buy and how much money you are willing to spend. This is where used car dealers get most of their inventory. Don’t worry about being outbid by a dealer, as they are buying with an eye toward profit and not necessarily your chosen vehicle.
Getting a list of the locations and times of the auctions, as well as being allowed to participate, will cost a few dollars, however. Government auctions are beginning to be held online, making them even more convenient. Some will even offer financing if you win the vehicle you have bid on.
Websites like Craigslist.org and Autotrader.com can be good online sources for vehicles. Online auctions on eBay Motors or online government auctions can be a great way to get a better deal than a traditional haggling session. When learning how to buy a car online, be sure to choose the method that is best for you.
